Of the different types of cars, hybrids are supposed to be cars for a greener future. Learn about the different types of hybrid cars, in the following article.
The effects of global warming and the climate change have set off alarm bells all around the world. People have become more environmentally conscious due to the changes in worldwide climate. These changes have also brought into focus the rising fuel emissions. Automobile manufacturers around the world are trying to come up with different types of cars that have lesser fuel emissions and lowered greenhouse effects. Another reason for coming up with an alternative fuel mechanism for cars is the rising fuel costs. Thus, different hybrid cars were created to help save the environment and protect against the rising fuel costs.
What are Hybrid Cars
Hybrid cars are automobiles that alternately use fuel and electricity to run. They help cut down fuel emissions to almost 50% to 60%. The hybrid cars have two motors, one that is powered by gasoline and another that is an electric motor. These two motors help save fuel, and provide increase in power and performance. Both the motors work in sync to provide adequate power to the car. When the car is running at high speed, the gasoline motor provides the fuel. When the car is running at lower speeds or is idle, the electric motor supplies the charge. The gasoline motor shuts down without burning any fuel.
Another point to note here is that hybrid car looks just like other types of cars from the outside. So you can have your favorite sports car as a hybrid car as well. There are different types of hybrid cars available in the market. Thus, consumers have a variety of options available based on the speed, car cost, and car brand to choose from.
Hybrid Car Types
There are basically three types of hybrid cars available in the market.
Series Hybrid Car
In the series hybrid car, the gasoline engine is used to start up the car, and after the car reaches a certain speed, the electric motor takes over. When one applies the brake, the electric motor transfers the charge to the gasoline motor. The gas engine helps charge the electric motor, and never actually powers the car directly.
Parallel Hybrid Car
The parallel hybrid car uses the gasoline engine to turn the transmission and the electric motor to enhance the car power as and when required. This means the two motors work simultaneously to provide energy that helps in propelling the car forward.
Full Hybrid Car
The full hybrid car uses the electric power for propulsion and uses the gasoline engine for power and acceleration. The full hybrid cars are also known as the ‘two mode’ hybrids.
According to the hybrid cars review, some of the best hybrid cars in the market include Ford Fusion Hybrid, Toyota Prius C, and Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE. Hope the above paragraph has helped you find the right car that suits your needs.
